Anyone seen the "big bore throttle body" by riot racing?

I don't think I've seen this mentioned here

I don't know what difference it would really make- surely BMW wouldn't have put a throttle plate that was too small, but maybe if the engine is already modded.

Somebody buy one and be the dyno guinea pig.

I've had one for more than a year now. Someday it'll get installed and dyno'ed.

Not going to to squat for a stock motor. Might help a modded motor but I suspect the intake manifold, cams and exhaust are the real limiter for big airflow. Past 7,000 RPM or maybe even 6,800 RPM the stock induction system looses efficiency and a larger throttle body is not going to fix it.

Don't forget the N52 only uses the throttle body as a back up to the VVT system. It normally does very little except help hold a little vacuum for the brakes and CCV.

Sure, got it for the fun of it. If the cams had worked it might've been worth it, maybe. Not going to sweat it. A flowed head with ITBs might be more fun though.

I saw this thread and remembered you mentioning it at some point.
Off the top of your head, do you know the size difference between Riot's and Dinan's?

No, not really, would have to look it up. Doubt it could be much bigger than the RR part though.

So what are your thoughts on such a part?
In your honest opinion, is it worth the effort?

By itself? No, can't see how.

So the Riot Racing TB is 80mm and the Dinan is 79mm.

Did anyone ever dyno the Dinan one? If I thought the RR TB would give 8hp (or more) I might spring for it... But I don’t really see it doing all that much.

I think I may actually have a dyno with and without the dinan tb (and intake scoop), I think there was a 5-7whp difference after 6250 rpm...

This'd be useful to see. What do you mean by intake scoop?

As promised, my before and after are in reverse order:

Car: 2007 BMW Z4 3.0si MT with headers and 3" exhaust

Before: Dinan TB, Afe drop-in filter, RPi air scoops
After: Stock TB, paper filter, no scoops

Each curve was the best of 3 run runs on different dates, 4th gear (closest 1:1) at the same facility. I've since sold the Dinan TB and will throw in a K&N filter after the paper filter gets dirty and call it a day.

Green was before when I had the TB installed. Had to sell it in order to be compliant with time trial rules so took that and the scoops off which lost me some power in the upper range.

3002 tii thanks for posting your dyno. Doesn’t seem like there’s much power to be had with the throttle body. It probably would be a good compliment to a N54 manifold with tune.

Not sure the gains you show are worth it to me for the price though.

Not huge but but close to what Dinan reported. Btw if anyone wants a core TB to send in that's not their original I can sell you you my cheap one for $40 shipped.

Thanks, got it.

Will probably order that bored TB from WCRiots in a couple of weeks now that I have a core to send them.

Yes, and it virtually made no difference. I'm sure today with BPC tuning there would be some gains.
