New key, no start

Got a new keyfob programmed to my E90. The car unlocks, locks, trunk opens, and it turns, but it won't start.

Car come optioned with CAS, but that's not working. Would that actually keep me from starting my car?

Also, did I just spend $250 on a glorified car opener?

Sooooo, your CAS is not working? Something don't add up there. Do you not have another key that works?

CAS is not an option, it's mandatory and will prevent the car from starting.

CAS and the DME exchange a rolling code referred to as the ISN. The DME will not enable ignition or fuel injection until a valid ISN is received

Lost the only key. Had a locksmith come and program a new one. The key locks, unlocks, and puts the car in accessory. Radio, windows, ect all work.

Hitting start just cranks the engine over, but it never starts. I can't hear the fuel pump engage, but there was nothing wrong prior to losing the key.

Comfort access does not work, but that I understand as it probably has to be recoded to the new key.

Is the new key a comfort access key? You can check by opening the back and seeing if the battery is replaceable

Did the locksmith not test it before he left? Call him back, he didn't do it right if it can't start the car. If he can't do it, you'll have to tow the car to the dealer and be ready to provide proof of ownership and pay $$$.

Key is a comfort access key. The locksmith said he thinks it's fuel pump related, but I don't see how that would magically manifest itself while throwing no codes.

Would the immobilizer keep it from turning over though? I've been under the impression that it won't even crank if immobilized.

Called the locksmith back, and he offered to come reprogram it, but maintains that on his end everything checked out, the car accepted the key.

How can he claim it's done correctly if CA doesn't work? That has nothing to do with the fuel pump

I would have him double check his work since this wasn't an issue until he started touching things.

if the car cranks then it's not a CAS-DME sync issue since the CAS is releasing the starter. The EWS may cut fuel though, that may be part of the issue. Are there any codes present related to that module?

Check for codes. If you try starting the car with an unprogrammed key it will store a code for it, but no CEL or anything.

I would unlock the car, put the key in the dash, (Comfort Access was not programmed) and hit the start button. Car cranks for 30 seconds then throws an SES.

Here's the codes thrown by the car.
EWS trips immediately, then the fuel pressure happens when the SES light comes on after 30 seconds and the car stops cranking by itself.

I took it to a shop and they are saying that the key is programmed properly, and the issue is the JBE or JBE Module.

Note, this car ran fine until I lost the only key a week ago. Since then, it has been towed from the lot to my house, a new key that doesn't work was made, and it was towed to the shop.

The JBE sounds like a load of BS to me, as there's no other symptoms, just the codes.

Sounds like it's the programming. Maybe time to try the dealer for a new key

29F3 is usually thrown when the low-pressure fuel system sensor fails. There are lots of threads on that subject.

Those voltages are way too low. What is the state of charge on the battery?

Have you checked the CAS module for codes?

Shop called today. They're ordering a new key to make sure they didn't get a bad one. If that doesn't work, it looks like a CAS or DME replacement.

Shoulda bought an E30. Coulda bought a screwdriver for $2.

Before you replace any modules a dealer trip should be in store.

The shop that did my key said they don't even touch comfort access keys any more.. Any they been in the business thirty years. My point is make sure your locksmith knows comfort access keys .. My is not comfort access and still took an hour just to program. My locksmith says while they can do comfort access it is time consuming and buggy..

I don't have CA, so that shouldn't be a problem. But maybe the "new" CAS that they put in, is programmed for CA. Can that be a problem? Is there a way to check with ISTA or INPA?
