Why not just have them sandblasted & powder coated?

Yes, you absolutely need it. The blue paint is JUST very thin color. The base coat is the actual paint. I tried it without previously and it didn't work.

Man, they look good! I think I will get rebuilt ones from Raybestos, they are zinc plated, and then paint them in this color.

I ended up just sending everything off to get powdercoated cobalt blue due to cracking on the paint on the anti-rattle clip arms and overall durability of the paint. Would look great if painted on the car, but i have a lot of assembling and its somewhat easy to chip with metal on metal.

Did you use specific paint for calipers?
This is what I am planning to use:

G2 is great! I used it on my old e34 I built. Just go with them on this attempt prior to powder coating. Powder coating only cost me $150 with sandblast so its less expensive than I expected.

Hey y'all, finished my 335i Caliper swap on my E91 328i. Direct bolt on no issues except for the soft pedal which i'm having re-coded here soon. Love the fact that the e91 rear shoes for the parking brake are the same size as the 335i.

Summary:
Custom Anti-rattle clips
Cobalt Blue powder coat
Full set of 335i Calipers from a 2008 E90
Zimmerman Rotors for 335i
Akebono pads
New Fischer's Automatische Gussstahlkugelfabrik hubs in the front

Looks excellent. However, Akebono will not give you that firm feedback like OE or ATE, Textar or Jurid would.

Nice to see someone else who has gone to the trouble of replacing the backing plates for the larger ones. Particularly on the rear. Mine was a lot of work coming from a 320d. With the small shoes.

You know, I've never really had "great" brakes in the performance sense. But these akebono pads have been stopping this boat of a car on a dime. Like I mentioned I do need to up the brake pressure with coding but pad on rotor contact is great imo. I can't imagine the bite of high performance pads however. Not bad for cheap pads.

If you want OE performance but no dust try Jurid pads. Jurid is OE supplier for E90.
I find them much less dusty than ATE and Textar. They are also priced really well.
335 brakes on 328 are overkill so most pads will do good.
Did you go used or rebuilt?

I rebuilt them myself. New pistons, seals, dust boot etc. Very easy to do with proper tools. I wanted the bigger brakes for the future as if and when this engine dies I may put something else in there. Who knows.

Lol can you not read?

Regardless, the G2 paint is good stuff. Goes on much thicker than anything out of an aerosol can would.

Custom or not, the clips are such an eyesore. Wonder what they would look like if they were painted black instead...that would likely help them "disappear" a bit better, behind the wheel spokes, as opposed to color matching.

Oh yeah. Even E90 330 has larger rotors compared to 328. If you go stronger, for sure you need better brakes.

Got to work with what I got. Didn't have the initial funds to go up to a bigger kit like F30 or M performance so it will do! Brakes very nicely now- my old rotors were warped to hell and my calipers were pretty grimy.

Yes, E38 Mpars fit perfectly with zero spacing. Fitment is prime with stock suspension on an E91 specifically.
