Got another truck and a RV to work on for the rest of the summer, in the meantime I'm enjoying the sh!t outta driving my bimmers!
Good looking old truck

I was able to confirm that it's something rattling around in the engine bay. I haven't figured out exactly what that is yet, but I noticed this morning I could hear it sometimes when going over rough roads and doesn't change with RPM. It almost sounds like it's in the cowling where the cabin air filter sits. I wonder if I left a socket somewhere.

I tried re-tightening the center bolt for the strut bars but that's all good and tight.

Not the first time I've had one of those cowling screws fall off down and landed between the plastic and the rubber seal

I had pretty good luck prying the ears off with a thick flathead screwdriver and a hammer then tapping the top down. However it looks like you had more fun than me

I figured it out! My oil catch can had unscrewed itself or wasn't screwed in all the way. There is a small strut brace that connects the body to the engine cradle. The oil catch can was vibrating against it and making a racket.

Screwed it back in and all is well.

The microfiber pads arrived and I went out to work on the paint correction. Once again, I spent about four hours on the hood alone and made a little progress. I feel as though another session will get it closer to where I want it to be but those scratches and spider webs are a challenge.

4 hours? It sounds like you're doing something wrong, post a pic of what you're dealing with in detail section and your full washing method and prep for compound etc. The product and method either works or it doesn't

It's listed as a blind plug on realoem for n52 and for n53 as some sort of hydraulic valve 11417584991

EDIT: Read about it on. ISTA and it's interesting, the opening is meant to fit a hydraulic valve for when the engine is being checked for oil pressure. Pretty cool.
Ahh yes that is the "hydraulic valve" as they call it, which indeed is removed and used as a port to check oil pressure, however the actual function of the valve (only fitted to certain models and later years) is a part of the mapped oil pressure system.

The pump is mechanical variable displacement, but that valve can also bleed oil to lower oil pressure and reduce pumping loses from the lubrication system whenever full pressure is not required.

I didn't even realize all of these cars had the port, I thought the ones with it had a different block, so cool.
Very interesting so would that valve ever be fitted full time to one of these engines? I imagine not unless there's some sort of internal bypass in the block which is actuated by it? Thought of it as just a servicing attachment.

Your car is rwd though I think you'll be okay. You have reminded me of my lack of a spare tire. I removed all my run flats and are quite literally going off luck without one..

I was under the impression that if you're paying for their service that is it and they have to just tow it free of charge. However I have paid about that much a few times before.

After this situation, I'm canceling AAA. I waited for 1.5hrs, the brought a regular tow truck. That driver said it needs a flat bed and that since it's modified they charge for itm he told me 1 hour for the flat bed to show. 2 hours later nothing, call AAA. Oh yeah " we don't cover modified cars so we don't put you as priority. We may not even tow you til tomorrow ".
