I didn't say that I don't like firearms? Was just musing on the chance to put them to some good, but of course the personal risk in doing so is very high.

There's guys venturing into the Ukraine armed with only a bus, to pick up refugees from the cities under fire. Incredible bravery.

I think it takes real courage to run towards danger. My cousin is ex Special Forces, served in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. Came home and joined the Police as an undercover drugs squad officer, and later chose to go back to Kandahar to train Afghan troops. Now he’s retired, he’s heavily involved with disaster relief as part of Team Rubicon.

Oddly enough he’s very strongly against owning and carrying firearms - perhaps as a result of years of experience seeing what they are capable of in the wrong hands.

A good friend of mine is a dual citizen with Poland, and she is raising money to help her family back home in Poland provide basic and medical supplies to various towns and villages in Ukraine. They load up their box trucks and cross into Ukraine to deliver whatever they can as often as they can, unarmed.

It's really upsetting to see the tragedy taking place in Ukraine. Putin doesn't care and his forces are attacking children's hospitals! Yeah, if only someone could make use of their marksmanship to take out a certain dictator.

The sniper scene in Hurt Locker is one of my favourite film scenes. Awesome bit of kit. I guess Joe Public isn’t allowed to just walk into a gun store and buy something like that?

Over here you can’t even buy a BB gun without a police check and a license. Mind you, it’s probably why we don’t have tens of thousands of gun deaths every year

Correct on both accounts. Yes, that was a great movie and scene for sure. Intense AF.

Oh and just to show you how strange the US is (IMO), the state of Tennessee declared this sniper rifle its "official state rifle" whatever the hell that means.

Its actually getting really bad, far worse than we probably envisaged. Its almost as though Putin is Goading the West into getting involved.

Really worrying, because what other lowest of the low atrocities will it take before our governments say enough is enough, the gloves are off!

I think it was Churchill who said we were “two nations divided by the same language” - lots of things in common, but just as many that neither understand about each others’ cultural norms.

Don't under estimate BB guns from the UK, if you buy a good one, and if you are hit by it really close up, it can still smart a bit !!

Something like that - one of my mates used to shoot for the Scottish Commonwealth squad, and I remember him saying owning a firearm - even a small-bore competition piece - was a complete nightmare

Is it the Dragunov that’s the Russian equivalent, or is that a smaller bore weapon? I remember seeing that in “American Sniper” - another awesome film.
