While installing my Angel Eyes we negelected to unplug the battery (I know, I know dumb decision) and while unscrewing the bolt to the car's power cable...we accidently hit the body of the car causing a SPARK!
After this I installed my Angel Eyes with no problem I drove around for a bit & my iDrive popped up with a message that my car was over heating & I needed to stop the vehicle. Car went into limp mode & I managed to pull back into my garage. Popped the hood & coolant was spilled everywhere!!!! ![]() I'm guessing my water pump failed, do you guys think this was because of the spark that I caused while hitting the body of the car while unscrewing the bolt to the power cable? I know our water pumps are electric...is there a fuse I can check or something? Please help guys I am so stressed out, my indy shop quoted me $295 for labor & I can get the parts (Water Pump/ Thermostat) for around $500 |

There's no way IMO that a spark will cause coolant to get spilled.
Additionaly, there's no way that a failed water pump will cause a coolant spill. Check a punctured hose. If coolant was spilling then this is the reason that your car is overheating. There is no coolant to cool the engine. First thing's first... Check where the coolant is coming from.

I don't know if there is a sensor/component in the engine bay near that location that malfunctioned because of the heat of resistor, what do you think? |

I had to get my water pump replaced because it went out. Parts were $420 and labor was much cheaper than you are getting quoted. Too bad you aren't closer to Orlando, because Precision Sport Industries did mine for much less than you are being quoted.

especially if the pump was not working .. the car will overheat real quick and purge out of the cap. the system has to have a fail safe... but checking your hoses would be a good idea.. |

If the spark caused a problem, I would think it would manifest itself immediately, not after a while. I'd check all my fuses, just like you suspect, in particular those that go to this electrical water pump. Unless you shocked the actual pump electrical unit, the fuse usually takes the hit before anything is destroyed. Sounds like the coolant was boiling over because of an overheat condition. No broken hoses? |

When my coolant pump went out, I had coolant splatter all over my engine too.

these pumps are made a little differently -- chk the specs they are electrical water pumps. no juice no operation --> no operation --> overheat all water pump failures are not the same -- and all water pumps do not manifest the same problems when they fail. |
