1er Sedan
Ok, here is how I will attempt to explain this...
The current 1 series has been out as a Hatch for sometime now. Yes, the coupe is different in many ways. Now, look at the 3er's history. The new generation sedan is released a year before the new generation coupe/vert. So what you see in this list is an all new 1 series sedan being release a year before the all new coupe... As for size, uh, whomever said they hardly fit in a 1er must not fit into an e46 easy either. I fit into my e46 sedan (shorter doors than a coupe) just fine at 5'11" 160lbs. The 1er has a higher roofline, but basically the same exterior dimensions as an e46 coupe. As most BMW's grow with every generation, it is possible the next generation 1er will be larger than the current. I, personally, hope its not, but I don't have any issues fitting into a 1er, e46, e36, e30, etc, etc...

Thanks for the post... I was going to make the same comment yesterday but would risk being penalized so I did not (this is my first post in a long while). The X7 was voted down several months ago so I am not even sure why people are still discussing it! The M1 was clearly released as an Hommage (the name says it all) like the Mille Miglia of years past, which never made it to production or even cued future design. Missing from the list is the X3, the coupe convert lift of next MY, the hybrid X6 and 7, and the new ///M models. The dates are firm for those at this point and are closer than most think. Really interested in seeing how the hybrids will turn out and the price delta they will command. Thanks again Scott!

Is it because you are not happy about how "Efficient Dynamics" has become the main headlines within BMW? As of currently a good selection of our models feature "Efficient Dynamics" these are not far fledged concept cars , these are cars you can buy today and more importantly these are cars that do not compromise the image of BMW meaning a thrilling drive , sporting dynamics and performance as of now we add the word efficiency. Currently what we are at today is Phase One of efficient dynamics. our Petrol powered six , eight , ten and twelve cylinders all are destined to come available with more technology aimed at keeping BMW as the most efficient manufacturer in each segment. BMW aim to be on the road and continuing the journey when our rivals are being forced off the road. As of the M-Division? This will become the Pinnacle of the Efficient Dynamics programme , Turbo charging is coming as is further technology especially in the field of further use of lightweight materials and specialist construction techniques. Further tech under development for M, Efficient Dynamics will incorporate BMW Active aerodynamics and the first BMW performance car to feature KERS technology. The 1er has enormous potential to become as big a sustainance to BMW as the 3er. Which is why BMW are focusing on as many potential variants that can come from the next generation platform. With the global trend for downsizing the 1er offers a unique opportunity for BMW that begins with the upcoming BMW X1 . The reasons for X1 are two fold to establish a new niche as a premium compact SAV and to provide stability when the current X3 begins to slide when the market establishes the GLK and Q5. This is when the cycle for the launch of the next generation X3 starts to approach. BMW also see the need for establishing a vehicle in the Premium segment to counteract the compact MPV market , although BMW will not offer a van perse. But a variant on the Progressive Activity Sedan Concept to offer something between a sedan and a Touring eliminating the need for both. Also in the pipeline is a compact Z2 Roadster and a variant from the X1 called an X2 these models will sit within next generation Coupe , Cabrio and two hatchbacks with the 3dr inheriting a more sporting design than the upright hatch. But that does not mean BMW are finished with the current 1er Coupe, as more performance plans are to explored. Not cultivating in an M model unfortunately as the experiment did not work. But also more options will arrive under the BMW performance range. |

Many of us enthusiasts, your core market, are skeptical that BMW can sustain the investment in these M cars given the added attention of the X SAVs. Clearly turbo charging will offer great fuel economy but will the KERs system help eliminate the turbo lag in the new M cars? It is not enough to just beat the competition in the era with tighter requirments for emissions, we need the new M cars to deliver a much better experience that the current M cars....(which is pretty difficult). Can you please provide some insight into BMW's thinking here for the M division?

No doubt Audi is doing a great job in releasing some attractive new models, but in terms of driving dynamics, they are still behind, getting close though. And no, I am not jealous, if you know what i've had, and what i have now, you'll know why.

The BMW 135i is what happens when a Mini Cooper graduates college and gets a steady but high-paying job in the corporate world, but isn't quite ready to completely abandon its frat-boy party lifestyle. The 135i is upscale and mature, yet it knows how and when to have a good time.

It's a bit hard to swallow at nearly $47,000, though. Equipped with only the cold weather package, steering wheel shift paddles, automatic transmission, and satellite radio, you're talking a couple hundred bills north of $38,000, a far more reasonable sum for a car that's fast, fun, and carries the cachet of the BMW name.

As you'd expect the BMW 1-Series is smaller than its big brother the 3-Series. It gives up size and interior room with little price discount but keeps the marque's legendary performance. There's a lot to like here if you can view the back seat as an extension of the trunk, but the best value is a lightly optioned example.
