I'm sure it would be fine with catless headers and a 1200rpm idle.

No, but I'm trying to get BPC interested in building a tune with my regrinds. Long shot given as busy as they are. Asking only if they've the resources in the off season sometime. Not pressuring anyone and no one should bother them about it, it's up to the owner to make the decision.

I know all the cool kids are moving to boost, but some of us old fashioned hipsters still like N/A. I think you guys have a shop Automatic 330i. Any updates or progress? Experiment with manually retarding the intake cam perhaps? What about testing out CobraMarty Rocker/Valvetronic lift adjuster?
( http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1329840 ) for context. |

Hey Bob, I have some questions if you don't mind: for n51 guys what is the best tune you guys have currently? Is it Alpha-N? Can I get a stage 2 tune for my n51 - it already has 3SI so why not stage 2? Do I have to choose 91 vs 93 octane for tune or I can switch somehow between 2 of them? Thank you
Oh, forgot to ask, any other method I can use - maybe cams available for n51 to increase power? Just asking |

- S54 3.5l stroker build, full cage, race car stuff - F10 M5 engine & turbo build - F10 535D build ( first one in the USA to get a hybrid turbo, meth & stage 3 tune) - S54 supercharger build 500+hp - & the n52 turbo build Once I get through some of these project I will have some free time to jump back to the NA world of the n52. For the N51, the peak horse power will not be the same as an n51, however the gains will be around the same(12 -15rwhp). As for the Alpha N tune, its recommend for street/track use cars or all out race. Around another 5 - 8hp. |

Hi Dan,quick question that you may have a better understand of,I see you do a lot of motor swaps, I'm swapping a n54 in place of a n52 soon. I'm current running the msv70, the donor is msv80. Can my vin be loaded on the msv80 for legal issues. I have the donor car, both e60s, I know the car will run with the swapped modules. The emission are going to read the donor car,not my legal car. What are guys doing to solve this aspect of the motor swap? I can't drive in with a e60 525 and have them plug into a e60 535 lol. Is this something you can write? It's the last on my inquire for this swap. Thank you.

Some minor question/update.
I think the 330i/N51 DISA set points are better for mid range power than the stock 328i values. It see that setting the transition to 4300-4400rpm instead of later still allows for the power peak at or near 3800-4000rpm, but because the power is dropping off, having the transition occur sooner doesn't seem to make the power drop off as rapidly. Probably such a violent transition while the car is already coming off peak VE causes it to drop more... Have you guys done testing with the set points? |

Dude, I can barely understand what you're asking, I don't think they would know either. Can you use the MSD in place of the MSV ans keep the same sensors speedo and the like? Possible, but why? If you're doing the N52 head and N54 bottom end, you need the MSV to control valvetronic. |

No. MSD80 is very different from MSV80. Its not a matter of swapping DMEs and making it work. Most of this stuff is locked up in a way that makes it impossible to swap (vin, EWS4 secret key, mileage etc).
The signals are the same, that isnt the issue. But this isnt something you make happen without specialized knowledge. That said - terra and I have some ideas on how you can make this work. Meaning, swap an MSD80/81, keep your original keys, cas, vin swap, etc. We are in the early stages, but I think it is possible. |

I know it was my bad and was doing two things at once,I have the msv70 n52, my new motor is a msd81 n54. I know what to swap and what needs to run, that part is easy. What my concern is the vin conflict and mileage discrepance. When I go pull into a station, with a 07 525,and the vin comes up as a 08 535, that's the issue. With all the swaps that are going on,this seems to be the only gray area. Hope this helps,
