Question NCS Expert - Reading RAD2 issue

Hello guys,

I have an issue when I'm trying to read 2RAD module with NCS Expert.

My car is BMW e90 LCI 2010.

Basicaly I can't do any read / write to 2RAD module.

I was able to read all other modules, only 2RAD can't be read.

I tried to comunicate with RAD module from ISTA+ (some sounds tests) and was working.

This is what I'm receiving when I'm trying to read 2RAD modulte:

If I'm remember correctly I had in the past the same issue on another car but same model (e90 LCI 2010).

Can be an Issue with my cable or my tools?

Thanks in advance.

Check your COM settings in Device Manager on windows. I have had similar problems when the latency timer wasn't set to 1 msec.

Thanks for your answer, I checked this and the configuration seems to be ok. For me is very unclear why this is the only one module which can't be read. I was thinking to buy an ICOM instead normal OBD-USB cable, but I'm not sure if this will work with NCS expert.

Any other ideas?

There are other threads where people have the same issue as you trying to read the RAD2. Their solution was that it could only read/write with an ICOM setup.

Ok I understood, thanks for you answer. So basically I think I should give up. Is very dificult to give up, but if there is nobady who was able to read the RAD2 module with this cable maybe there is really an module Issue.

Thanks for your feedback.

Recently I bought a 2010 Rad2 model. It has Bt and Usb features.
I adapted it to my 2005 320i via standard k-Can cable even after changing prod date of my car to 03/11
So my proposals for You are
-try to do it by another computer with BMW tools,
-take the unit to another car

Can You write here your VO ?

Yes, ofcours. This is the VO : WBAPG11080E582962O

I have also other informations. I tried other Jobs (on RAD2) instead of SG_CODIEREN and CODIERDATEN_LESEN and all others seems to work (I do not know if are working correctly, but are working). At least I saw there an reset of RAD unit when I performed SG_RESET.

Also I was able to read the unit information with INPA (I attached a picure here).

Another strange thinks (at least for me) is that when I'm selecting the module in NCS Expert I saw there a version of unit, but when I'm trying to read the module (with CODIERDATEN_LESEN) that version is changed (see attached pictures). I observed the same behaviour also for the other modules an I put the .trc file in NCS_DUMMY and seems to be version read after (CODIERDATEN_LESEN).

I meant VO (Vehicle Order List, the content of FA.TRC file) not VIN.

I had the same case.
I suppose Your version of BMW tools may have some flaw.
Did You tried it on other car?

I attached the file here. (I hope this one is )
Also I attached "first" FSW_PSW file. I do not know if this can help.

Yes, I had before an e90 from 2006, and there was working perfectly for all modules. I didn't try it (at least not now) on other BMW e90 LCI. But I will try to found a friend with the same car to try on his car.

Now I saw that I can't add this type of files.

Hi, no. I tried also with somebody else diagnosis cable and program and I wasn't able to read it. I found somebody with an ICOM next and I tell him to read the module to be sure that there is not an issue with the RAD module and he was able to read it in NCS expert. I think, maybe the obd cable is to slow or something like this and this is the reason why can't be read. 😔

Did you have him program it with the ICOM then?
Also seeing if you can read the non non Most modules and Test
on all the Most modules for a read would be a interesting verification.

Hi, I didn't program it with ICOM, only I read it, to check if communication is working. I can read and write all modules except RAD2, and here is also interesting that it is visible in ISTA+, and there I can trigger any operation regarding RAD. Also is interesting that I can do some operation from NCS expert like RESET. But read and write from NCS expert can't be done.

Just received Bimmerlabs (bimmergeeks) cable. I was able to read RAD22 module with it which I was not able to do with regular K+DCAN cable!!!

In more details:
I think only RAD22.* (newer RAD2 modules) wont work with regular ebay K+DCAN cable, and you might need ICOM:

Other RAD2.* (older RAD2) should work.

However I was able to read RAD22.* module with Bimmerlabs (bimmergeeks) K+DCAN cable!
So shout-out to Bimmerlabs (bimmergeeks)!

Have not tried coding yet, just reading.

Maybe try coding it in the car that can read it then move it to your car.
