Remote turn on options for L7
First off I HAVE searched. I just finished my sws-8 install with a JL 500/1 and it sounds amazing. I love the bass in my car now. However I planned on using the JL amp's singal sensing feature to turn the sub on and off but the LOC I have doesn't provide a high enough signal unless I blast the music. I tried increasing the gain on the LOC and decreasing the gain on my amp but then my subs sound distorted. I have read that there is only a remote turn on lead from the head unit. But I just spent 9 hours working on my car and I don't feel like taking everything out again. I installed new angels eyes, license plate lights, blacklines, splitters, and the sws-8's and I am beat. I read somewhere before that I could use a relay? but I couldn't find it again. I should have saved it. Can some please help me out? Or direct me to a previous thread? I hate not being able to listen to my music at a moderate level. BTW pics of my new mods will be up tomorrow when it's brighter out to take pics!

I was read some stuff online and saw that someone was using a switched cigarette socket for the remote turn on lead. I know the one under my armrest is switched. Would that be a good source?

Thanks guys I don't want to get a loc because I don't feel like ripping the other one out and tapping into it again. I'm going to try the 12v outlet in the center console with a 1a fuse. I have to hide all my iPod chargers and six cables anyway so it has to be taken apart regardless. I'll let you know how it goes

So I wired the remote turn on lead to the cigarette lighter socket and it works fine. However the amp doesn't turn on with the door being opened. It turns on after I press the start button, I don't have to start my engine but the acc power has to be switched on. Besides that I'm ok with it. Also my license plate lights and interior lights dim when the bass hits. I have an old 1.2 farad cap Im going to wire in but has anyone else experienced dimming? My headlights are fine, no dimming just the ones I mentioned.

I have L7 and to my understanding there's no remote wire in the trunk, only by the headunit.

Dude I appreciate your help but you completely neglected the fact that I stated that I don't want to take apart my interior again to run the remote turn on lead from the headunit. My whole thread was about getting other options other than doing this. Read the thread first!

FWIW, the reason the signal sensing doesn't work is because you're using an LOC. The 500/1 doesn't need it as the high level inputs will accept a differential-balanced signal. It could also be that you're tapping off of the sub outputs from the L7 amp. The JL amps look for midrange signals to turn on so it the signal is low-passed it won't work correctly.
Refer to page 4 of the owner's manual for full details. |

1. Get another LOC with remote wire output 2. Connecting to cig lighter circuit 3. Get another amp with signal sensing (that will do it with a low-passed signal) Since you have already done 2. and don't like it, you are stuck with 1. and 3. all of which require more work and more money. |

Thanks for the responses...I think my best bet is to get another loc. Requires the least amount of work for me.
