Not to highjack this tread but I still can't figure this out. I drive 4/2008 335i mt which can spin only one of the wheels endlessly My assumption is that is doesn't functions beyond certain speeds.

335i is heavier and a lot faster than 328i. Not to mention tuned 335i for which if tracked bigger and better brakes are a must. Stock for stock 335i brakes are better and bigger than 135i. So regardless if it is affordable or not I highly doubt that 335i owner will go for 135i brake swap. It would be like downsizing the 335i engine to 328i levels and than modifying it to get the 335i output. Is counter intuitive. You are better off making the stock 335i brakes more hard core upgrading the bushings, rotors, pads, brake lines and brake fluid than investing into any 135i setup. That is why, even for those who are frugal, I recommend the f30 setup.

Completely agree. But I wasn't talking about brakes for a 335i. And the thread is about upgrading 328i brakes not 335i brakes which is the subject I was responding to.

Same difference. if you are already upgrading and spending money might as well go with better product straight out of the box which makss 135i brakes on any e90 redundant in my opinion.

No argument. But I'm more concerned with handling so the lighter choice is the better choice, thus the move to investigate RB rotors. The lightest brakes that provide as much torque as the tires can deal with and which won't overheat is then the best solution for tracking, imho. Just passing along this observation. Naturally YMMV.

Everyone does realize that any of these upgrades being discussed require a coding change in order for the brakes and stability management to function properly, right?

I had F20 340mm fronts fitted to my 335i last week and heard nothing of this. Brakes work great.

Why would it need a coding change?

The hardware bias has changed and the EBD has to know about it. Otherwise you're not going to have the correct ratios for bias in the ABS module.

There is a factory setting for the Performance brake kit, it completely changes the pedal feel and if you were to drive the car in an environment where the EBD and the stability programs come into play (think snow or ice) the difference is night and day.

I've been upgrading brake sstems on cars with EBD and stability management for years and you simply cannot do it correctly without a coding change.

I'm about to upgrade the brake on my e91 325xi 6mt to the 335 brakes. I picked up a set of fronts and backs used.
1. You mention EBD coding change. What is involved with this (I hope my local BMW performance center can handle this).
2. Trying to decide whether to get remanufactured calipers prior to installing. I'm on the fence as to trying the calipers out or just buying new and using these for core charge.

Any Thoughts?

hate to say it but you may have wasted the money on the rear brakes. You only need the front set. I don't think the parking brake of the 325 will work with the 335i rotor.
As for your questions.
1. You can use BMW standard tools and update the VO to +SPBR or the actual official coding with ISTA which will reset the steering angle sensor, DSC and the brake bias.
2. if you are worried, order the parts and rebuild them yourself. $27.36 per caliper

touring and xi use the same parking brake size as 335i, so he's good.

I have all the 335i brake parts to convert my 328i. Calipers rebuilt, painted, carriers, stainless lines, dust shields, rotors, the whole banana. This coding thing has me dead in my tracks. I researched BMW standard tools - holy freaking hell, what an ordeal to install and get the thing working!!! I'm no computer science major. I'll probably put all the parts up for sale and scrap the project. Crapola.

There are people that can do it remotely or you, you'll just need the cable and give them a way to remotely access your laptop (Teamviewer, Anydesk or something). Don't give up due to that

What change would you recommend ? Is it just VO +SPBR?

I'm about to upgrade my 335i to the F30 m performance kit (370 mm) and I am weary about the effect on DSC.

For those of you looking to upgrade to 335i brakes, I'll have the whole set available here in Sydney in a few weeks

I upgraded to 335i brakes all 4 corners and didn't code a single thing and car drives and stops fine.

Me too as have many others. After over 4 year and probably close to 50 track days I haven't notice any adverse effects.
