[QUOTE=Torgus;20124305]
Anyone who has not owned both really don't know what they are talking about as they are signifigantly biased imo. Especially those with the NA engine as it seems impossible for them to come to understand the difference between the cars. Saying they are basically the same is just asanine. The best analogy I can think of is the NA engine is like a 4 banger Mustang and the FI engine is like the v8. Both look the same on the outside but one can be made significantly faster. It should be easy enough to find a local person to let you test drive their tuned 335i. Drive a tuned 335 and then a tuned 328 and make the decision what power plant you want to be stuck with. Edit: How many 335i owners do you see post that they should have gotten a 328? QUOTE] I own both. A 2011 328i wagon and a 2016 M235i. Both 6spd/RWD. The 328i is not slow in any way, it just isn't as fast. Grow up. The biggest difference is that in the 328i you have to use all the revs, while in the M235i it doesn't really matter. Either car will get your license shredded in a nanosecond. In an ideal world, I would have been perfectly happy with an M-Sport 228i, but I could not get one equipped the way I wanted without a sunroof, and with the sunroof I don't fit in the car. So slick-topped M235i it was.

As a friend and I were walking to a bar, we saw a Porsche meet. My friend started joking about how it would be funny if a 911 owner would make fun of a Boxster owner for driving an entry level car, and how silly of a thing that would be.
I told him about the 328i vs. 335i threads all over E90 post. He died laughing (RIP). Humans: Red vs. Blue. It's what we do. Notice how the M3 owners never come in with these arguments? |

These arguments are not uncommon on other platforms when two engines are offered either close in factory output: VR6 vs 1.8T GTI (back in the day) or when a lower model has the potential to perform or outperform a higher model: Turbo Genesis vs V6, R32 vs GTI. These are valid arguments as the lower models often have the potential to be faster for the same money of cheaper. 328 vs 335i have neither of these variables and is really silly to argue. |

I think it all comes down to you and your preference. Your car is an extension and expression of who you are and needs to fit your driving type.
Some people are 328 people, some 335, others don't want BMW at all and would take an Audi any day; or vice a Versa with all other combinations of preferences. I'll second many viewpoints on here about the driving characteristics of the E90 vs F30. I recently had a 2016 335 GT as a loaner when I was in for oil change and 60k checkup and was not really pleased with the GT. It had the M Sport package and was nicely packaged with shift paddles but even in sport plus I never felt as connected to the road as I do in my E90. I also don't have M or Sports package; even un-tuned my car felt sportier; and when I load my Cobb maps in its a whole other level. BMW needs to make some changes in the next version of the 3 series in my opinion. It did not feel like a drivers car as you would expect. I hate to say it; but my next car once my E90 has reached its lifespan for me might be an S6. |

I love my 328(aside from too many stupid problems).
Actually picked it over the 335 because it's much much more engaging to drive as a commuter car and still a blast on the highway. Also not as many upkeep dollars to keep it going. So 328>335 IMO. |

The money spent on performance just isn't worth it. It's a good amount of money for very little HP gains. Looks however make the car more enjoyable all around. It doesn't matter whether the car is fast or not, people will appreciate the looks of it. Now if you have a platform to modify for performance gains (or 335i) then that's a totally different story. |
