Adding the N54 intake manifold on. We play the waiting game gents. |

it has shorter runners, which lend themselves to higher RPM power. it will obviously lose some low end torque, but with shorter gearing and a lighter car, that wouldn't matter as much.
I have similar plans for my other car, but I've hacked up a single stage manifold and want to make my own plenum. |

Short, fat runners = more high end torque Long, narrower runners = more low end torque So, if you're choking out up top, and the N54 IM is shorter and/or fatter (likely), then it might be worthwhile. |

damn, this is very interesting.
also perhaps someone can look into a e46 M3 CSL style intake and ALPHA N tune

You could add a CF airbox like the CSL - you would need the inlet flap to be controlled like the throttle plate though (while N52 runs on little vacuum, it does require some). MSV70/80 is already designed to run without the MAF, it would just take some tweaking. but, CF airboxes aren't cheap.. people don't want to spend $4k on a supercharger, they probably don't want to spend that on an airbox that gives less power.

Used manifolds seem to be about $150 on car-part. com
If I had a garage I would be willing to give it a try. It takes about 2 hours to do intake swap. Living in an apartment SUCKS! |

Meh. I have no interest in giving up any bit of low-end torque (there's not much to spare!). To me, that's one of the car's biggest flaws that I'm always looking to try and fix - I'm thinking a 3.73 rear end might help - and I'm certainly not going to try something as seemingly counter-productive as this.
Not even sure why on would bother with an N54 IM - just because it fits? At least with the 3-stage we know it was designed for the engine (for the High Output version, no less). It just seems like fiddling for fiddling's sake. |

Well yeah of course the bottom end torque is useful on the street. Trick is being in the right gear at the right revs from my experience anyway. Gotta keep it above 4500rpm and shifting by 6500rpm. Some turn complexes have been non-intuitive for shift points with some instructors recommending a shift point after the apex just before track out and others looking to shift earlier so the torque band is peaking through the apex into the straight. But all that works backward into the previous turns and their shiftpoints. Damn complicated to find the combination that minimizes all the sequential sector times.
