Maybe Matt or Andrew can hook you up with a quick shipment. Makes sense to replace chain unless you are going back into it again. Great to see things progressing well

I have decided to pull the timing cover and replace the tensioner, chain and guides. I'm not really in a rush and I think this is the best thing to do. Last thing I need is to snap a chain and damaging the engine.

I had heard a timing chain requires you to pull the engine on this engine. Is that not the case? Appreciate the thread! Great info in here!

I don't see why. I can remove the timing cover with the engine in the car.

Pretty sure this is going to suck! Looks like I'm going all in.

Ordering all the parts tomorrow. Likely going to purchase the Fluidamper damper as well. It'll be a lot of work, a lot more than I originally planned on but, I think it will be worth it in the long run. I do plan on keeping the car for the foreseeable future, mine as well do it right!

I'm relatively certain I'll need to either pull the head or drop the oil pan. Maybe both. Not sure yet.

The part list from BMW is $326, which isn't bad but, the parts are in Germany and there's a 14-21 day lead time.

At this point, the cover is just about ready to come off, once I commit to removing the head or pan.

Good call might as well if you can.

Timing chain on a N57 has a master link. It can be fed in while rotating the engine and removing the old one at the same time.

Excited to see what these cams and valve springs do!

But with the master link method, there's no replacement of the tensioner?
Also we have 2 chains: crank to pump, pump to cams from the diagrams.

Well, after messing with the m57, I don’t see anyway to snake a chain in if ours had a master link. You’d have to be some sort of ninja. Not to mention you’d have to turn the engine over to fish the end up to connect. Can’t turn the crank with cams installed on the m57 or you’ll hit the valve.

Not much new on the 335d. Spent the day working on the X5. I did push the car onto the lift and will mess with it over the next few days. Ordering parts tomorrow.

If I had to pick, I would pull oil pan and fish it through down there. The oil pan gasket is an eventual change out anyway, I'm told. Good luck with the work and let us know what happens.

Sadly, there’s no update. Car is on the lift and the parts are here. I’ve been busy with the fam and this weekend we’re going out of town.

I also had to replace tires on the X5, installed rear camber arms and had it aligned. That ate into my car repair time.

It’ll get done soon. Sorry for the delay!

Don't want to pollute this thread. Please write a separate thread about those X5 camber arms. I know you have mega miles on it. thanks

I posted info in the e70 forum.

The oem arms were still in great shape and useable. I only installed the arms to add + camber to help get toe in check.
