I'm sure it's been covered before but what's with the flat spot at 4200 or so? Seems to be common for all N52's

3-stage manifold runner resonance, one of them anyway.

it's a DISA transition.

if you can imagine the single stage manifold, it's torque curve would follow more closely to the range of those "dips" than the bumps in torque the DISA stages give you.

Awesome work cobramarty and everyone that contributed.

My two questions...

Anyone with headers going to check this out and get a tune and Dyno?

I wonder what the long term affects would he on the springs that these support? If any.

Hey Bob at BPC,
A big thanks for testing and posting. You guys rock.

I sent you another set of supports- 'Stage 2'. they add another 0.4-0.5mm lift.
They have a second mod done, not just more of the first mod.

This is very cool. Seems we may be close to seeing more than 250whp from a (streetable) n52!

PI, +/-silicone intake elbow
3 Stage Intake
PE
Headers
Valvetronic Support Mod, (+0.5-1.0mm intake valve lift)
BPC Tune

Might just be the combination for 250+whp.

The ability to partially disassemble your valve train, insert some parts, and reassemble. Not trivial.

That make's it sound more difficult than it really is. Really only inserting/replacing 1 part, six times.

Remove the valve cover, just like if you were replacing the VC gasket.
One cylinder at a time,
Rotate engine so cam lobe is pointing at about 1 o'clock position when viewed from the front
Loosen top spring bolt, insert spacer, tighten
Remove the support- 2 bolts, slide out stock support and replace with modified support
Loosen top spring bolt, remove spacer, tighten.
Repeat. Replace VC gasket if needed. Replace valve cover.
Box up old supports and return.

Programming, that's BPC's tune.

Support and Valvetrain-

So, 250+rwhp is about 300+ crank HP.

That is 100HP/L territory for n/a engine!!

I thought headers, 3si, and a kn, with Bpc tune should already be at 250hp ?? That's what they had shown, I would imagine with this mod and tune should be up to 260-270 rwhp with out mad delete. So with the delete, and a high flow muffler, we should be 290 at the wheels..Does this sound right to anyone else??

Bob's tune on the 128i makes 245whp, so adding the basic kit would add around 8whp, maybe the more aggressive satage 2 adds a bit more, 10-12hp. Still WAAAAAAY off from your 290whp number. About 37hp more. Thats a LOT. Not going to happen.

290rwhp would require something like 340-360bhp, definitely not possible in a street car.

I saw dynos from AA and Bpc with 250rwhp that wer put out with a 3si, headers and a tune, a 330 should be 220 or so at the wheels, with headers, tune, intake, and this mod. Has any one else seen these? That's what I was figuring, I know with the flash tunes, n52s are sitting at the 225 mark, same as a330 stock. I would have thought this mod was the over the 300 mark. No harm.

Agreed, dyno numbers can be very misleading, and often are. That's why we're always looking for differences from a baseline as a measure of the real improvement. Rarely get a chance to see that though.

My 328i with 3-stage, headers, and a tune, albeit a shitty AA tune, produces 218rwhp, an increase over stock baseline of 37hp, iirc. Haven't dyno'ed it with the BPC tune or with that and a bored TB or with the TB and an Alpha-N tune. And eventually, it would appear, with cobramarty's spacers. I'd be surprised if the estimated crank hp manages to get close to 290hp, maybe 300hp but I kinda doubt it.

That'd be awesome but it's not going to happen without internal changes to the engine, including cams, higher compression and octane, head porting and polishing and unshrouding, etc., race exhaust (already have that on the car...), and possibly blueprinting and balancing. Might not even be streetable at that point as I'm guessing the idle will have to be elevated a bit due to the cams and it may not be possible without costly head machining to get rid of the valvetronic system and go to the N54 cams, VANOS, timing chain, etc. which means a mechanically operated TB maybe although I'm told it isn't necessary.
