E90 ELV lock tripped, fixed, but now no power to speakers/amp! Help!
Quick background. 2006 e90 325i. Logic 7. 130km. AT. New battery (2 months ago), and registered. Non iDrive. No Bluetooth. No TCU. No SAT. No SOS issues like others allude to. Not water related.
No issues whatsoever prior to this, but had car parked in heated garage, came out one evening to head off, and got the yellow ELV signal. Car wouldnt start, steering wheel was locked. Tried many things over a period of 2 days, including resetting ELV counter with tool32, but nothing. Ended up taking out steering column and resetting ELV lock manually. Once done, car fired up flawlessly. Ordered an emulator so i never have to do that again. I still dont know what caused this, possibly a short somewhere?? Problem is, I now have no power going to my factory amp, so no sound from speakers! I still get the start chime, but no speaker sounds. I know the factory amp is getting no power because I have a LOC w/ REM wired to the power inputs of the factory amp that are used for an aftermarket sub amp, which is getting no power. I've checked every fuse in the box at this point (all are fine), and have skimmed many manuals on the MOST to figure this out, but still dont know why i have no power to my amp. Assuming the fuses are good, does anyone have any idea of why the factory amp might not be getting power? Thanks for any and all direction... Last edited by Daousti; 12-12-2020 at 11:49 PM.. |

First and foremost, ctuna, you are a badass and want to thank you for helping so many people. Please don't stop doing what you do. Like I said, ive read a ton of posts at this point, and you're consistently in every thread.
You've given me a lot to go through, about half of which I've already seen in yours and others previous posts. I will double check my footwell connections again tomorrow, but didnt have to disconnect anything there when replacing the steering column; I have no BT, no speaker under the steering wheel, only a footwell light. Only things that were disconnected related to the ELV and key area (and foot light). Possible something got pulled behind the HU, but even if that was the case, the amp should still be getting power, just no fiber signal? I will also try to look into INPA tomorrow too - might find something there. I think there must have been a short because it seems too coincidental that my ELV and speakers go at the same time. Dash battery voltage showed 12.2 at resting state, not great, not bad. If it's not a fuse, do we know what else might prevent power from going to the amp? I can imagine this is a solved problem 16 years later! Again, any additional direction appreciated! Last edited by Daousti; 12-13-2020 at 12:14 AM.. |

Digging deeper, I connected to INPA. Radio connection was fine, showing no fault codes, however when trying to connect to amp, it would not respond (no power, as expected). Interestingly, the CCC was also no responding. Not exactly sure how these are related, but hopefully diagnosing whether the CCC is the issue will yield some results...
Edit: nevermind this comment, my car is non Nav, so doesnt have CCC, hence no response. Just Rad2 which is fine. Last edited by Daousti; 12-13-2020 at 11:34 AM.. |

If the battery is to low and yours is kinda of low the IBS system can turn
stuff off that is deems unnecessary to keep the car running. (THAT IS WHY you always want a full charge on the battery before working on the car) or you will get ghost problems See IBS explanation in the first link. electical e90 pdf http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.cGU&cad=rja http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.cGU There are Status Led's in the L7 amp that tell if there is power there and if it is communicating properly. The first thing in the Handy Links should help if it still can be downloaded. http://www.bmwlogicseven.com/?p=3837 Last edited by ctuna; 12-13-2020 at 11:33 AM.. |

Took it out on a big drive this morning, voltage back to 12.9 resting. Tried disconnecting/reconnecting the IBS, all combinations, still no power to the amp. Going through those guides, speakers/amp/hu are not something the IBS shuts down? At least not according to what is listed in those linked manuals. Even still, after a 30min highway drive and 30 minutes in the city, battery should have enough juice that this shouldnt be issue. Not sure how to progress at this point... |
