Carbon Fiber Roof (Need some help...)

Hey everybody,

I'm looking to get this done in the next month or so.
I need help figuring out what brace to use in place of the sunroof, since it will be deleted in the process.

Should I source said brace from a slick top e90?
Or am I better off having the local shop fabricating it?

If you are reading this and have done this, please let me know!
Very committed to doing this, and I want to do it right the first time around.

You may have better luck asking on M3Post. People have fitted custom CF roofs on E90s, IND has done some as well maybe they can answer your questions.

Looked into this, ordered a roof from IND, and got all the details and quote for installation on my car with sunroof.

The sunroof structure has to be removed and a different brace installed. The front and rear windows have to be removed and often break in the process. The net savings is zero. All the difference is in the sunroof and that can be blanked for $400. The quote to do all the work with my discounted shop labor rate was just under four grand. Replacing the roof with an OEM metal roof was the same cost and the same weight. I did the blankoff instead and canceled the order with IND.

Why? Damage/leaks?

If just cosmetics, wrap it in 3M vinyl instead

I did it

Local shop did it cheap for me mid-winter. Windshield broke so added unexpected cost. You buy an OEM part called a "bow" (check realOEM for non-sunroof car) for ~$30 then the shop doing the work puts it in with 4 spot welds after the sunroof cartridge is out...I have a new E90 and this time will probably do the blank - almost the same weight savings and way cheaper.

In all honesty, that was the initial idea... but you're right.
The price is pretty astronomical, and the savings from blanking it vs. the whole roof can go to other needed areas...
Thanks for knocking some sense into me, Pete.
