Were your head gaskets leaking oil or coolant or both? I hear it is very uncommon to have a HG fail for this motor.

08 335i, have the same issue as well. Pouring smoke out at random times, but got progressively worse and more frequent over time. Smells like something burning, almost rubbery.

I recently brought my car to an Indy shop and they replaced three fuel injectors. This stopped all smoking for a few days, but I noticed it came back very lightly today. Will have them inspect the other three. Will keep you guys posted

same issue here recently have replaced valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, walnut blasted, and replaced oil. small puffs of white smoke seem to randomly come out, and don't seem to come out at stops or while accelerating from a stop. I'm at 66k. Just topped off coolant so I will see if I am losing any...

So today I installed the rb pcv and I had no smoke on a 20 mile highway drive. After sitting For an hour I started it and a good amount of smoke was coming out. I figured it would smoke from burning off the oil bc the shop said my exhaust was loaded with oil. Eventually most of the smoke went away. I'm hoping it getting better and I will update when I drive more. Everyone who has smoke coming out should do the pcv upgrade. Best $50 I ever spent. Fingers crossed...
Jdylan, is the pcv upgrade solution holding up? Please let us know!

You can also replace the pcv hose as that has a check valve in it as well.I replaced both of mine and have a occ and it's been dry for 4 months.

Mine is still holding up after the pcv, I hope Jdylan says the same. I also used a small clamp as suggested in a DIY at the check value (annoying tab that's tough to unclip) I broke part of it so the clamp may have helped the seal as well.

E90Crack so you saying that after doing the PVC your car has not smoke at all? Because my car is smoking like mofo after going FBO. I am currently at 46k miles on my car, and Ive trying to avoid changing the turbos. The PVC check is the last thing I am missing to do before new turbos. I will give it a try.

Could you please post a link to the DIY? Thanks!

Yes, it worked for me....but no guarantees it'll do the same for you. I think its definitely worth a shot for $50 and will help with the oil. Everything you need is below - also note the first response to this thread with a picture of the clamp over the check valve. Let me know if this works, good luck!

....after removing the smoke, i'm now dealing with the squeaky brake problem :/. If you don't know what i'm referring to, be happy....search and hope it doesnt happen to you.

Thanks for your input E90Crack. Did the smoke issue stop immediately after doing the PVC or did the smoke gradually diminish and then eventually completely stopped? If the latter, how long did it take or after how much of driving?

the smoke gradually diminished, I cannot recall the specific timeframe, but my guess is approximately one week.

Thank you very much E90Crack, I just installed my PVC today, and went around the block to see what is up. It was still smoking, but as was coming back to get the car back into the garage the amount the smoke was less. But like you said it maybe going away gradually! By the way I had squeaky brakes issue , and when I replaced my brake pads for Akebono ceramic pads I used the red paste brake quiet instead the regular brake grease, and no more squeaky brakes . Will see what happens with the smoke as I drive my car!

Not a problem man, glad to hear the smoke is starting to diminish. Thx for the tip on the brakes!

Still smoking after PCV upgrade when coming to a stop and smells of burnt oil. Already have oil catch can but no oil in it. No oil loss. Drove over 1k miles. Changed spark plugs and all look the same and normal i.e. not looking steam cleaned. No coolant loss. It appears I'm now left with no other option but to have the turbos rebuilt with new seals? Someone mentioned to me that once turbos leak, the seals have to be replaced even if the original issue has been resolved? Thoughts?

I will join this thread... my experience are following:

1) When I start my car at COLD morning (temperature during night should be 5°C and less) the engine run is not smooth and I see for a while white smoke from engine...eg 30sec

2)When is warm weather everything is fine

3)When I use OMV diesel max motion - without any fucking flower oil, or how is it called, the start is much better, almost no white smoke

4)This never happened until i cut off my DPF

5)I have replaced my fuel filter - it didnt helped

-is it possible that during low outside temperature there is some condensation in car? but why the engine has strange run during first start at morning?

as far we know..the white smoke is water... so my next step will be check the EGR thermostat:

I officially joined the white smoke club. Checked my coolant and plugs and both look fine. I've been in DP's for about 6k miles with no issue. I'll try the PCV but maybe the secondary cats are out?

Just installed my catless dp and now im getting the white smoke of death lol. My nearby shop says it could be the whole turbo seal etc. Not sure if I'm hearing the rattling but im putting back my stock dp on and seeing if the dealership can possibly do a turbo replacement since I only have about 57K miles on my car.

Hi
I´ve been having the same problems with my 2010 335I the last couple of month.
White smoke when idle.

Today I mounted my new PE exhaust. When the old exhaust was cut off I noticed that it was pretty heavy and suddenly water was tumbled out.
There were between 3- 4 Liters of water in there.?

On my way back from the shop the white smoke was gone.

The question is why there is so much water/condensation in the exhaust and why it is not emptied after some run going WOT??

I catless and FBO

How many miles you have? Might have a pcv issue on your valve cover. Anything over 50k I'd recommend replacing the valve cover as at this point these things are considered maintance items and should be replaced

Also if you have a aftermarket exhaust, run e85 our cars will produce alot of condensation and will puddle inside the exhaust and smoke till it burns out

Having the exact same issue described in the original post here. Was there ever a resolution, OP? Trying to avoid making a trip to the shop if it was something as simple as the PCV valve.
