Apologies to all.
If you could start your own thread when you join you would not get into a situation of upsetting people. Nice welcome! I will write my own thread now that i am allowed.

Some people having a bad day I guess. Don't worry about offending others over technicalities, there are more important things in life to get angry about!
Good luck with your install. Looking forward to reading about it.

And it works for everybody including you: if somebody is searching for replacing the OEM HU this thread will show up... and then 5 pages will have to be read before getting to your post. I bet that by the end of the first page the searcher will move on to another thread. Therefore what you posted is lost. That searcher could have been you. That helps nobody, as it frustrates the hell out of everybody that wants a quick and efficient search results. Thus searching becomes useless. Then the same questions are posted again and again. And sometimes in the wrong threads. Which takes us back here. |

Love this project. Great job knowing it can be done. Funny how I called 5 high-end audio installer companies this week who say they wouldn't try a project like this on a BMW. Takes balls to remove the iDrive head unit

I know of at least one in your area that would have no problem doing it and it would be solid work.

Did you have to, or does anyone know, if the wires to hook up a center speaker are already installed, or is this classic BMW where the wire loom is so specific for just this car? Thanks, don't want to hijack thread and will start my own when I get started. ML |

The hifi system does not have wire run for a center channel speaker. The only thing it has is the carrier to attach the speaker itself. You will have to replace your dash piece with a speaker grill and run the wire from your amp to the speaker.

Thanks very much for the guide. This is going to be a great help when having a go myself. Just a quick question, are all the cables going to the boot via the central tunnel or via the side of the passenger door?

Hi,
All cabling is passenger side (UK) except for the right under seat sub wiring which runs driver's side. Matt

Hi All
Newbie here. Old thread I know but I just wanted to say thanks for the guide (and many of the other helpful guided in these forums), it's got me motivated to sort out my own audio system (I have the same 'professional navigation' on a pre-LCI model). Planning a very similar install with different parts (mainly cost driven!) All the parts now ordered, including; JBL MS-8 Blaupunkt PDX-F4 (Should fit under the boot floor) Vibe Slick 4 (Centre) Infiniity 49.2i (Rear) Rainbow DL C4.2 (Front, hope the crossovers fit) Audio System AX 08 (under seat) Blaupunkt PnP BMW Harness Wire/ISO connectors and crimps to build a harness to route signals to/from HU to MS-8 Plus a load of crimps, heatshrink, wire, dynamat, door surrounds, centre speaker grill, speaker connectors, speaker adaptors etc Now time to see how the install goes! I'll let you all know. |
