Half engine mode after idle for 10 minutes
So after driving my car for about 30 mins today I got home and sat in the driveway for about 10 minutes idling, the half engine symbol came on and my engine made a couple weird rpm changes, I immediately shut the engine off. After testing this again it did it again. Any idea what this may be?

I would highly suggest not running a nitrous setup now if youre getting a half engine symbol lol, that is really strange no codes. Any light on the dash will throw something.

Literally the car runs great otherwise, no issues what so ever. Think it could be something simple like a dirty maf?

Sounds like you need new coils or spark plugs. I had customers experienced the same issue after flash tune. How many miles you have on the car?

You're getting a limp home mode but not faults? Makes no sense. Limp home is a fault and there should be a log of it in the ECU as well as why it was triggered. What scan tool are you using?

Mine has done it atleast 6 times now. It's a known problem with the valvetronic motor. Tech called it a hiccup...? There is a bulletin about it and bmw has to send out a tech to do the job since most tech are not qualified. I will try and find it and post here. I just try to not let it idle that long anymore. Car always functions perfect after a restart and no codes either.

My car has done this to me before. But only on rare very cold days (-30 Celsius), and my mechanic told me that it was my throttle freezing and sticking. He clears the codes and all is well. Probably happened 3 times to me over the past 3-4 years of owning the car.

This might be the right one but its been a long time since i read the original I have been referring to. We may be experiencing loss of oil pressure after long idle time. Hope this helps. **bulletin above is copyright of BMW North America**
