DME version - I8A0S or IJE0S - How to tell?
Hey guys, quick question, how do I know for sure what DME Version I have? Logic tells me it's I8A0S since its an 05/07 car (based on the guide below), but I would like to be sure.
Is the BT Cable my only option? I'm guessing I can also pull out my ECU and check but seeing if there are any easier ways. 8A0S = MSD80 - 07' - mid 08' IJE0S = MSD81 - all other N54s.

You'll want to use a BT cable or INPA to check the actual software version, as the versions you have listed aren't the only ones, and if you have a 05/07 you likely don't have the I8A0S software, even though you do likely have the MSD80 DME.
Mine is a 07/07 model, and I had to have it flashed from I860S to I8A0S.

Hypothetically if I were to install the wrong back end JB4 flash type, any ideas what would happen? Car wouldn't start, run rough or something worse?

Bringing back from the DEAD!!! Just because Google pulls this up in the few wjen searching for dme version.
Anyways to help the next guy searching for it my car is an 09 (LCI) build date was in 2008 I have the msd81(IJE0S) so the OP info is probably current. Also you can use MHD. Connect to your car and go to the "store" and it will connect to the DME and read off your VIN and DME "version" |

Bringing this from the dead incase anybody comes through. Easy way to figure out DME version is to try to flash the BEF for the DME you THINK it is. MHD won't let you flash the wrong one. One program said mine was MSD80 but MHD didn't let me flash the map for that DME version.
