Repair shop for new clutch?
Sorry to jump in on your thread. I'm a relatively recent new comer to seattle as well and need a new clutch and probably flywheel for my 335xi. Most shops I have called say they'll call me back with an estimate and never do. It's weird. I've never been in a city where no one seems to want to make money, or maybe theres enough higher margin work for everyone to not mess with that job...I digress. So, anyone have any shops they'd recommend? Preferably someone who's had it done?
I could do it myself as it's not overly complicated and I'm very mechanically inclined and would purchase the needed tools. I just don't have an enclosed garage space. Alternatively, if anyone knows of a short term garage I could rent for a few days to do it myself that would be great, too! Thanks. |

Just get a new clutch from ECS tuning and take it to a shop. Shouldn't take that long

I got a quote of $2800 from a more high end performance shop and $2500 from a BMW specialist. These both included a new flywheel which most recommended at my mileage. Typically about $1000 in parts and 8 hours of labor. Talking to another indie in west seattle that'll hopefully be more around $2000 for clutch and flywheel. Labor rates for indie's here are almost dealer rates in the Midwest.

I've had good experiences at both NW Autoshield and Accutint. Both shops located in SoDo near the stadiums.

For SEA people who enjoy wrenching (but not in a driveway), or simply love cars, check out The Shop in SoDo. Promoted as a "country club for gearheads", The Shop has facilities to DIY, lift access, alignment rack, detail bay, and indoor storage (nice collection of heavy metal on display). There's currently a Porsche Carrera GT on static display at the front door, as well as a 904 in the garage. Both are hyper-rare birds. The GT was used by the owner as a daily!
For the non-car people in the family, the facility also co-locates with an Ethan Stowell restaurant, Derby. No personal affiliation other than being a satisfied member. http://theshopclubs.com/
