My E91 Journey
I began searching for an LCI E91 RWD 6 MT about 18 months ago. I found one at a Chevy dealer in San Antonio Texas. After negotiations and an E46Fanatics Member checking it out for me I pulled the trigger.
The car arrived via truck and this is what it looked like when I first saw it in person. I was happy with my purchase, but the car wasn't exactly what I had expected. Shortly after taking ownership I had to replace both rear wheel bearings and the oil pan gasket. Unfortunate, but oh well. After that the car was in sound mechanical shape. I got the car home and swapped in black kidney grills and debadged the rear rear end. I had a set of BBS RC303s that I was planning to run on my ZHP, but I sold the ZHP in favor of the E91, so I temporarily sprayed them and slapped them on. Next it was time to clean up the interior a bit. Swapped the iDrive controller for a cleaner one. After that I found a set of MTech trim in Canada and had it shipped to replace the walnut. I dont have a photo of the before and after at the time I did it, but a couple days ago I swapped the steering wheel too, so you can see the trim and new wheel. It was time to get rid of the 4x4 look with the BBS RCs so I ordered and installed ST Coils, M3 Control Arms and new bushings/mounts/hardware. Height wasn't dialed in yet, but better than it was. Next I needed to liven up the front end a bit. Removed the amber reflectors in favor of a smoked set and added JB Speed Splitters. Also resprayed the wheels silver. I am trying to figure out what color to get them powder coated this coming winter. Also purchased a set of CF Rear Bumper extensions from a forum member who fabricated them. So...here is how the car sits today. I will be adjusting the suspension tomorrow. Overall I am happy with the car. I am not sure how much more it will change because its a DD and I just bought an E36 M3/4/5 for more spirited driving. Hope you guys like it! J. Brand |

Excellent write-up OP! Are the BBS wheels noticeably lighter than the OEM ones? Were you able to feel any difference driving with them?

I love how you have transformed this E91 with all the small simple tings that really make it pop.

You got the Unicorn (RWD / 6MT). She's a beauty.

Thanks! I think you are correct, it seems to be lowest, least clearance right behind that reflector. I think raising it up is a good option and the car will still look good.

A couple updates....
The car was hit in January, but my son and I were just fine and after 2 months I got the car back. Finished, the shop did a great job and a couple wear items got replaced in the process. Picked up some new tires from the Tire Rack DC about 15 minutes from my house. After finding out the wheels I purchased were slightly bent and one was cracked I finally got them road ready. Tires are 235/35/19 & 265/30/19. Next step is mounting them, but here is a teaser for now. I will need to raise the car a bit and figure out what spacers (if any) I can/want to run. Thats all for now, but I should have them mounted in the next week or so once work settles down. |
