Just had the pleasure of speaking with Bob at BPC. Great guy and more than willing to answer questions. I am glad that we have someone that is wanting to help us that were not fortunate enough to get a 335. I see great things coming for us in the next few months.

So, we are getting a lot of questions emailed to us about the tunes.

Tunes we offer for the N51/N52

- Stock intake (Non DISA) or N51, 11 - 15rwhp gains depending on transmission

- 3 Stage intake manifold swap(128i,325i,328i) or Stock 330i,530i Z4SI 15 - 22rwhp gains depending on transmission

- n54 intake swap manifold swap(128i,325i,328i) 15 - 26rwhp gains depending on transmission

- 3 Stage or N54 intake manifold swap with AA header or any other aftermarket header

- Alpha N race tunes for both intake manifolds

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are buying our tune remote, you need to purchase a hand held from us. Flashing units from other companies will not work since they are locked to that company and stock files are encrypted to that device.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Features:
- Rear 02 Deletes
- Disable throttle body
- Disable MAF
- Remove speed limiters
- Disable cold start (still in beta for MSV80)
- Adjust torque limiters for automatic cars (1st & 2nd gear shifts)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We also offer custom dyno tuning here local at our shop, please email randall@bimmerperformancecenter.com for more info and pricing.

Isn't n51 already with 3IM rather than stock? Just confused

That is correct, however, the power output with our tune is around the same as a stock intake manifold N52

Since my Dinan intake will not work with the Msport Bumper, any news on the velocity stack/intakes you guys are working on? Does piping length (in bumper, as opposed to being in the engine bay) have an impact on power?

From our testing, no. We tested with out an intake at all and just an open throttle body, no filter and it made the same power as our intake. The reason why we made the intake is so you have a filter

My tune comes today! (I'm excited)

Bob, from what you've seen - how far off is a full bolt on N52 from a stock S54?

You are going Alpha N right? I would be interested in hearing how it drives if you are driving it as a daily.

Stock S54 vs N2: header, BPC tune, n54 intake manifold & exhaust

Also, Stock 328i & 330i vs stock S54

yeah I think we can get close in BHP, but you'll never have the same amount of torque (even with cams and such). the S54 has a longer stroke and extra displacement working to its advantage. Plus, tuned S54s put out over 300whp and 285ft/lb of torque, more with mods.

Also more compression and a better head, more lift and duration on the cams.

Garage List

Tangentially related question:

Does BPC recommend a colder plug as N52 power approaches 300 crank HP?

For instance, moving heat range from 6 to 7(NGK, Desno higher rating = colder plug)?

Thanks.

The stockers will do just fine. We have dyno tested with the S52, S54 & the n52 with aftermarket plugs and the stock recommended BMW plugs made 4-7rwhp more. Same with coils, run the stock units.

So to break it down to get the closest possible without FI 300hp I would need the following with an n51.

-BPC Tune Alpha N?
-Headers and Exhaust
....I guess thats all?

At the flywheel yes, but at the wheels no. To hit 300rwhp you are going to need a custom intake manifold (short runners and a big plenum) & cams. With our setup, the car was making 170rwhp, after a manual swap, n54 intake manifold, AA headers, custom exhaust & our tune, we made 80rwhp

Do you have any ideas what kind of numbers your cams are hoping to produce?

I'll be happy to give my impressions when the time comes.
And as for the Alfa N, I will be eventually I will be. But currently I'm doing a tune for the stock manifold and going from there.
