Upgrade of Stereo System
Hiya,
This is my first post here, so please bare with me. I have recently bought a E91 330d M Sport Touring 2006 with the base system (I think thats what its called) Now I want to update the sound system and have read a number of guides here and Im getting more confused, the more I read. You see I've upgraded all 4 of my door speakers with Focal IFBMW-C and looking to add a JL sub and AMP in the boot just for the sub. Question is: How do I go about adding an after market amplifier to my stock stereo 'Professional' Navigation System CCC SA609. I was hoping it was a simple case of connecting RCA connectors Either I missed a brilliant thread relating to my scenario or no one has ever bothered go down this route Any help to links or advice is highly appreciated Thanks in advance |

If all you added was door speakers to a base system

Like I said you are going down the wrong path.
Like I said you are going down the wrong path.
If you have the base system you need to upgrade the amplification for all speakers and get rid of the non flat eq curve on the head unit first. You should talk to Makkan00 about this as he is your local expert. If you upgrade the under seats properly they will make more difference to the over all sound than a sub in the trunk . But if you are a BAss Head then its your issue. Last edited by ctuna; 08-23-2014 at 12:13 AM.. |

...I don't get it.
1) Since this is based in the UK, I'm guessing their equipment levels can be different, so Are you sure you have the base system? With 2 speakers in the door, 2 in the rear deck and 2 speakers under your front seats? 2) Is there an amplifier already in the trunk(boot)? 3) If you read the sticky up above and knew you had the base audio system, why would you spend so much money on speakers without even; a)fixing the horrible sound that's going to them from the head unit b)getting an amplifier to those speakers you spent all your money on? 4) Like ctuna said above, the last thing you should be worrying about right now is a subwoofer. |

So I spent abit more time with my UK motor and did some further checks and found there to be a speaker until each front seat.
Now I'm starting to think I may have rushed into buying my FOCAL coaxial's for the doors, and cannot return them I've decided to follow the path of upgrading the floor speakers and install a 4 channel GENESIS amp that I've had for many years before going down the sub in the boot route. I also checked whats lurking in the boot under the panel and have: Now to check what cables do what and try and get them hooked up to my GENESIS amp once I find a thread. Will keep you posted, thanks in advance |

Oh no, does that mean I am not able to upgrade to a sub/amp in the boot using one of your harnesses ?
Can you recommend any options ? ideally I would like all 4 door coaxials and the underseat bass units all connected to an amp in the rear boot ? maybe an additional sub too |

I've already installed 4 x Focal IFBMW-C and now know there running off the stock stereo "Professional Navigation System CCC SA609"
I want to replace the floor bass speakers and have all six speakers running of a 4 channel GENESIS Profile 4 amp (that Ive had for many years) and the amp only accepts RCA connections Better still have the 2 rear doors running off the stock stereo and use the 4 channel amp to power the front coaxials and floor bass speakers |

The Input Sensitivity is 0.3 - 4 volts so Im guessing its not 8v+
Ive just realised how old they really are, back in 1998 I bought'em and hell they may not even fire up. So if I were to buy a new amp from the UK, which covers the whole of my setup, does anyone have any recommendations on make & model ? |

Jl audio amps are the defacto standard but
Jl audio amps are the defacto standard but (jl audio xd600/6)
you are still overlooking the frequency flattening you should do with the base system either by recoding the head unit to Hi Fi output or the use of a processor or frequency flattening device such as the Jl cleansweep. I don't know if you bothered to read the links I gave you but that Mosconi/Gladen setup takes care of that with a built in processor in the amp . Yes its a little pricy but many have used and the reported results are outstanding. It only gives you 4 channels which means the backs wouldn't be powered. The stereo purists here believe the back channels are pretty useless anyway. Also Makkan00 has free configuration files for the Mosconi/Gladen setup and it is well supported in the forums around London. Makkan00 can do coding or do stereo stuff locally(London Essex) he has a lot of experience with these systems. All, I appreciate all the info provided here. I've decided to sell my really old amps and start afresh.
ctuna, I did read up on the Mosconi/Gladen amp and thought I'd get away with using my old amps, but this is not the case anymore. Thinking about buying the Mosconi Gladen One 120.4 DSP – 4 Channel Amplifier with DSP and will speak with monsteraudiodesign.co.uk and will liaise with Makkan00 going forward. I would still like the rear door speakers to work, if its with the Base stereo, then thats fine. Or maybe theres a Mosconi 6 channel amp - need to do more digging... Do you think I'll still need a harness from Technic for the Mosconi amp or will this do: Mosconi Quadlock – 2 and 4 Channel Plug & Play Cable Harnesses.... I would prefer to just connect things up in the boot rather than remove panels etc thru out the whole car |
