I'm the tuner for Bimmer Performance Center in Raleigh, NC. I would like to introduce our shop and share some information about us to the Bimmer Post community. Before I continue, please know we have contacted the forum administrators several times to become a site sponsor and have yet to hear back. The shop was started in 2011 by our owner, Dan Connor. For 14 years, Dan worked on BMW's as a dealership technician before deciding to go at it alone. The business has grown to become the largest independent repair shop in central NC that focuses on only BMW vehicles. Other than repairing cars, BPC also has a motorsports division dedicated solely to fabrication, engine building, and tuning. BPC Motorsports has fabricated cars from the ground up and also built and tuned engines that have gone on to win a number of races & even championships in BMWCCA, NASA, Ultimate track car challenge (two years in a row). Our lead fabricator has learned from some of the best in the racing industry and our technicians have all gone through BMW's STEP program and have a combined experience of 47 years in BMW maintenance and repair. We work with the best aftermarket companies like Active Autowerkes, VAC, Bimmerworld and Turner Motorsports. We are not here to sell or distribute parts and tunes, we just wanted to let the BMW world know who we are and turn your craziest BMW ideas into reality. From a bored and stroked 2.8L M20, a custom single turbo M54, N52 with a N54 intake manifold swap and Alpha N tune, an S62 swapped E30 that's completely back halved with E36 M3 sub-frame, suspension, and in the near future we have plans to build a stroked S63 out of a 2015 F10 M5. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly: EMAIL webmaster@bimmerperformancecenter.com or give us a call @ 919-501-2090 and ask for Randall, our motorsports service writer. We look forward to joining the Bimmer Post community and continuing to help build the baddest BMW's on the planet. If you looked up "innovative" in the Bmw dictionary, there would be your shop. Love your work and looking forward to seeing the results on the n52 platform!

Sweet. I have a set of stock cams desperately looking for a competent regrind.

nice projects - I like seeing stuff beyond "FBO" piggybacks, body kits, and ebay suspension. Where it's not "why?" but "why not!"
Thanks for the tip on the MSV70 EWS simulator BTW. I hope it works, although I'd still like to come up with a software solution. |

Well I found where the EWS rolling code lives on the MSV70, (last night BTW) its not in the tune file. It lives on another EEPROM on the board.

in the 4kb E2PROM right? I've been mapping that one out too. I haven't looked for the rolling codes yet, but I'm not sure how I'd use that to fully delete EWS anyway. Not without a full IDA disassembly at least..

What do ya think are the odds of raising the compression of the N52 so it'll run efficiently on 100 octane race fuel? And would it still be possible to run on 93 octane street fuel? I'm assuming the head would need to be skimmed and new pistons made, at a minimum, assuming cam overlap is minimized, etc.

Thats the problem I ran into as well. Once I get some more free time, I could have something worked out in a few months

I worked on it a little last year. I didn't get too far but I'd be willing to share what I did learn. Basically the hardest part is the memory mapping, the MPC563 has programmable addressing so the addresses referenced in the code aren't necessary the same as the offsets you see in the binary. I believe the parameter space would be 0x840,000 (using the OLS as a clue) but I never did figure out where that 4kb E2PROM fit into memory. I presume it goes at the end after the MPC563 flash but I haven't tried again..
anyway sorry for the thread hijack. |

Another thought I've had for a while is physically retarding the intake cam 5-10 degrees. that would allow for a maximum retard of 130 degrees (like the S54) on stock cams. The maximum advance would of course change but there was only one or two cells in the stock map that I saw where it would even matter, and it was at part throttle anyway. My main concern would be having enough piston/valve clearance - 1.5mm minimum, preferably 2.5mm..

Thanks, came to the same conclusion both for the target CR and the result of trying to run race gas. Not a cheap mod though.

I think it will fit pretty easy but who knows if it would be "better". It would need more lift and/or duration, but usually turbo engines don't have aggressive exhaust cams because the turbo pressure would just go right back out of the cylinders.

Thinking it has more duration and a regrind may increase lift sufficiently but without the actual cam profile there's no way of knowing, I guess. Would be cool if it were that simple.

That should really only be necessary with the supercharger. That was right around 295-300whp. If we're getting that with N/A and running out of fuel I think we'd be doing pretty damn well for ourselves!
